Yesterday, in Cortina d’Ampezzo, the conference “Sport is School” promoted by the Education Department of Regione Veneto as part of “Veneto in Action. Opportunities for the province of Belluno in view of the Olympic and Paralympic Games of 2026” took place.

The event was attended by, among others, Gianluca Lorenzi, mayor of Cortina, Stefano Campoccia, Vice President of Fondazione Cortina, and Elena Donazzan, Regional Education Councilor, along with 250 students from schools in Cortina d’Ampezzo, sports professionals, and representatives of regional schools that combine sports activities, including competitive sports, with their academic path.

The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games represent an opportunity to showcase the beauties of Veneto to the world, but above all to create new job opportunities and growth for our young people. Sports are about education, development, and making our region more attractive in terms of professionalism, and opportunities to generate new organizational models,” commented Councilor Elena Donazzan.

During the conference, the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Fondazione Cortina, the Regional Education Council, and the USRV (the regional official organization of the schools in Veneto) was announced, supported by a contribution of 200.000 euros. The aim is to prepare our young people to face the challenges and opportunities that the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games will bring, as well as the legacy they will leave on the territory.

Thanks to this Memorandum of Understanding,” added the councilor, “Fondazione Cortina will enter primary and secondary schools in the area to meet students, convey the values of Olympism and solidarity, thanks to collaboration with the Paralympic Sports Federation. Students will have the opportunity to attend the main international sports events organized in Cortina, experiencing a day in the mountains full of sports and friendship.

Students will also have the opportunity to volunteer at various events in the area and participate in courses for transversal skills and career orientation, as well as internships.
