With the hosting of top-level sporting events for Paralympic athletes comes an opportunity to rethink and innovate services and infrastructure to guarantee all guests the possibility of experiencing unique moments and emotions in serenity and harmony. It is necessary to rethink many aspects of the destination, such as mobility, hospitality, accommodation facilities, and shopping facilities, from an accessibility and inclusivity perspective..

During the Cortina Ski World Cup 2024, the slogan ‘sNOw DIFFERENCE‘ imprinted on the bibs was enriched with meaning by concrete initiatives that made the Rumerlo finish area completely accessible. In fact, Cortina prepared to open what was the International Ski Week (26 January – 2 February 2024) by hosting athletes and fans who watched seven different competitions between the Women’s World Cup Speed Skiing and the Paralympic Alpine Skiing World Cup.

Specifically, the Rumerlo finish area, which featured the same layout for all the competitions, was equipped with accessible areas and paths thanks to the installation of driveways with special polyurethane plates for wheelchairs, pushchairs or other means of walking support. Two tactile maps were placed in the two finish and start areas to help the blind and visually impaired find their way around. The new ‘Prosecco DOC Sparkling Corner’ area was barrier-free and fully accessible, as were the toilets and other areas; an audio guide to the event was also available and, thanks to the support of the Veasyt company, a video interpreting service in LIS (sign language) was provided.
