The jet men of the FIS Alpine World Cup return to the Tofane after an absence of more than 30 years

Races to take place Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 January on the Olympia delle Tofane Cortina d’Ampezzo

Cortina d’Ampezzo, 12 January 2023 – The FIS (International Ski Federation) has entrusted Fondazione Cortina with the recovery of two Alpine Ski World Cup races not held in recent weeks. These are the Super-G not raced in Val Gardena and in Lake Louise. The two super-G races will take place 28 and 29 January in Cortina d’Ampezzo on the Olympia delle Tofane, the track that will host three days of Women’s World Cup races next week, and venue of the 2021 Alpine Ski World Championship.

«We haven’t hosted a Men’s World Cup race for more than thirty years, not since the two downhill races in February 1990 when Kristian Ghedina had his first success on the circuit» underlines Stefano Longo, President of Fondazione Cortina.«For Fondazione Cortina and for Cortina, it is a great satisfaction to host these races, and perhaps also a compensation for the cancelled pre-World Championship races in 2020, due to the pandemic. The organisation, currently preparing next week’s Women’s World Cup stage, is already gearing up for an extended period of races and is determined to deliver an event of the highest calibre also on the occasion of the two Men’s super-G races. We are motivated and determined».

«The fact that the FIS and the FISI have entrusted Fondazione Cortina with these two men’s World Cup recovery races, which are added to the existing programme of the women’s calendar, is a testimony to our organisational skills» comments Gianluca Lorenzi, mayor of Cortina d’Ampezzo. «To hold five World Cup races during such a challenging winter season affirms Cortina as the Queen of winter sports».
