After the Milan Cortina Olympic Games, the women’s World Cup returns to Ampezzo from 15 to 17 January 2027. Two downhills and one Super G on the programme

The countdown to the women’s alpine skiing World Cup in Cortina d’Ampezzo has begun. Exactly 100 days remain until the top circuit returns to the Olympia delle Tofane, the historic Ampezzo slope that last February hosted the women’s alpine skiing programme at the Olympic Games and the entire programme of the Milan Cortina 2026 Paralympic Games.

The best performers in international speed racing will go head to head on the Olympia across three days: the Cortina Audi FIS Ski World Cup is in fact scheduled from 15 to 17 January 2027. On the programme are two downhills (Friday 15 and Saturday 16) and a superG (Sunday 17). Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 January will be dedicated to timed training runs ahead of the downhills.

The event, the most eagerly awaited fixture on the World Cup speed calendar, is organised by Fondazione Cortina and returns to the Ampezzo basin two years after its last outing, staged on 18 and 19 January 2025. On that occasion, the downhill was won by Sofia Goggia, who took victory with a 42-hundredths margin over Norway’s Kajsa Vickhoff Lie and 55 hundredths over Federica Brignone, while the latter claimed the superG, winning by 58 hundredths over Switzerland’s Lara Gut-Behrami and 1″08 over fellow Swiss Corinne Suter. For Brignone, those two days on the Olympia delle Tofane, which had never smiled on her until then, were a sort of “dress rehearsal” for the double Olympic triumph last February, with first the superG victory (on the 12th) and then the giant slalom success (on the 15th).

While waiting to learn the names of the next “Queen of Speed“, Fondazione Cortina has begun work on the three-day women’s World Cup, a three-day event that renews a tradition of excellence dating back to the early 1990s. At the end of July, the FIS inspection (attended by circuit director Peter Gerdol, together with Massimo Rinaldi, FISI’s head of external relations) gave the green light for the World Cup fixture. Since then, the Fondazione Cortina staff has set the organisational machine in motion for the mid-January weekend that will renew the spectacle of speed at the foot of the Tofane, a spectacle that over the years has been signed – to look only at the most recent era – by champions of absolute stature in the women’s circuit such as the aforementioned Federica Brignone (winner of a superG) and Sofia Goggia (four-time downhill winner) and by the American Lindsey Vonn, able to triumph at Cortina six times in superG and six times in downhill, and Mikaela Shiffrin, winner of a superG.
