Preparations are underway on the slopes of Cortina d’Ampezzo for the upcoming Cortina Audi FIS Ski World Cup, the women’s alpine skiing World Cup that has been a staple of winter sports in the Queen of the Dolomites for over three decades. The world’s speed queens will return to the Olympia delle Tofane in January 2025, with a downhill race on Saturday 18 and a super-G on Sunday 19, organized by Fondazione Cortina.
On Saturday, June 22, FIS, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation, conducted an inspection of the Olympia delle Tofane to assess various technical aspects of the racecourse and logistics for the two-day World Cup event, as well as television coverage.
FIS representatives included Chief Race Director Peter Gerdol, Director of Race Operations Women Andreas Krönner, and Race Director World Cup Women Speed Events Alberto Senigagliesi.
Fondazione Cortina was represented by General Manager Michele Di Gallo, along with Matteo Gobbo, Davide Viel, Martina De Sandre, Sebastiano Dabalà, and Riccardo Alfarè. Also present were Francesco Ghedina, representing Fondazione Milano Cortina, and Walter Zambon, representing Ista.
The inspection confirmed that the Olympia delle Tofane is in excellent condition and ready to host the world’s best female skiers. The FIS representatives praised the work of Fondazione Cortina and its partners in preparing for the event.
“We are very satisfied with what we have seen today,“ said Gerdol. “The Olympia delle Tofane is a fantastic racecourse and the facilities are top-notch. We are confident that the Cortina Audi FIS Ski World Cup 2025 will be a great success.“
Di Gallo echoed Gerdol’s sentiments. “We have been working hard for many months to prepare for this event, and we are very proud of what we have accomplished,” he said. “We are committed to putting on a world-class event that will showcase the best of Cortina d’Ampezzo and Italy.“
The Cortina Audi FIS Ski World Cup is a major event for Cortina d’Ampezzo and the surrounding area. It is estimated that the event will attract over 20.000 spectators and generate millions of euros in economic activity for the region.
In addition to the world-class skiing, the event will also feature a number of other activities, including concerts, food and wine festivals, and children’s activities. There will be something for everyone to enjoy in Cortina d’Ampezzo during the Cortina Audi FIS Ski World Cup 2025.
