Cortina Skiworld and Fondazione Cortina team up to bring you an action-packed mini-series available on demand on DAZN, soon to be on YouTube via Fondazione Cortina. Produced by the creative minds at More than 30 seconds, with adrenaline-fueled shots by Alessandro Manaigo and Manaz Production, “13 Blacks” follows former Italian skiing sensation Kristian Ghedina on the most challenging slopes of the region, amidst a backdrop of rocky landscapes.
Join us as we chase an adrenaline-fueled storyline packed with memories and tips from the local champion.
Featuring the most iconic Olympic and World Cup pistes, each episode is a thrilling race against time and a cinematic spectacle.
With a legendary champion, a menu of mythical slopes to choose from, and the breathtaking setting of the Dolomites, this is the recipe for our new TV and web series produced by More than 30 seconds for Cortina Skiworld and Fondazione Cortina.
Expect five fast-paced, adrenaline-packed episodes as “black” as the best slopes of the region, with snowy walls, jumps, and plenty of anecdotes from Kristian Ghedina himself, a pillar of the Italian speed skiing team nicknamed Italiajet and currently a star in the latest edition of Pechino Express.
Get your dose of skiing and life lessons on DAZN under the “Winter Sports” section of the dropdown menu – SPORT, where you’ll find a space dedicated to Fondazione Cortina. Cortina d’Ampezzo boasts thirteen “Blacks”, a lucky number: experience them following the tips of one of the greatest sports specialists, boasting 5 Olympics, 13 World Cup gold medals, and another 12 Italian Championship golds under his belt. “Ghedo” is all that, and much more. A true local from Cortina, he grew up skiing in this area, guiding a new audience to discover one descent at a time, alongside some national FISI instructors. Kristian alternates breathtaking descents with tales that immerse us in this valley of the Dolomiti Superski.
We kick off from the terrace of Rifugio Col Druscié to explore the Tofane area, where we ski alongside real Dolomite rock faces. It’s not just a trip down memory lane, but an opportunity to appreciate both the breathtaking views of Cortina’s white basin, seemingly tailor-made for skiing, and all the recent restyling and new facilities.
Our first stop is the Olympic Stratofana, also known as the “Olympia delle Tofane”, immortalized during the 1956 Winter Olympics. Throughout the series, we discover Labirinti, recently renovated and chosen for the men’s giant slalom of the 2021 World Ski Championships, and Vertigine Bianca, where you can go “off-piste on-piste” on untouched snow.
Heading up to Ra Valles with the last section, recently renovated, of the historic Freccia nel Cielo, we find Druscié A, widened and perfected to host the latest 2021 World Championships, and attempt to enter the exclusive club of the All Blacks, the dedicated record holders of the Forcella Rossa slope, one of the most challenging in the Dolomites: “a skiing monument,” Ghedina tells us.
One episode is dedicated to the Faloria area, set of the movie Cliffhanger, where the panorama opens up and embraces the peaks. With the cable car, we access the super panoramic Stratondi, then it’s time for Bigontina, amidst the woods, and Canalone Franchetti. Two other gems are the newly born Scoiattolo slope, with its leap into the void, and Vitelli Alta, adrenaline-filled like a Formula 1 circuit.
The champion closes the lucky series with the three blacks of Auronzo, Misurina, and San Vito di Cadore, which he frequented since childhood: from Fedo slope, his testing ground for his early races, to the fun-filled La Pala, full of bumps, to Ciastel, perfect for showcasing the technical skills of a true skier.
The project stems from the partnership between Fondazione Cortina and DAZN, aiming to create new opportunities for territorial communication involving multiple parties. In this case, it’s the Ghedina family and the local operators who open “their doors” to tell the story of Cortina as the birthplace of sports and an environment with unique characteristics.
Alongside “13 Blacks”, the mini-series Dream BIG is also presented, dedicated to the young athletes of Fondazione Cortina: 9 athletes from various disciplines, from snowboarding to curling to para skiing, 9 stories of courage and dedication. The final episode, dedicated to ski mountaineering, will be ready in April.
